A Closer Look: Scholarship Program
A Detailed Look at Level 1 and Level 2 Scholarships…
Is the Level 1 and Level 2 Scholarship Program Merit-Based?
No. Scholarships for Level 1 and Level 2 are not merit-based. Selections are randomized. The only requirements to apply is: 1) identifying as BIPOC and/or transgender and 2) completing the application form. Our randomized process was updated to avoid "gate-keeping" and to remove "qualifications" from engaging in this work at the introductory levels (Levels 1 and 2), since everyone comes to IDC with various levels of experience and backgrounds.
Can you give more information of the Level 1 and Level 2 Scholarship Program timeline?
Sure! We would like to provide some additional context to the following language on the Scholarship Program page of the website:
*NOTE: Scholarship applications are released when new courses are launched on our website. In order to be notified when new courses are released, please sign up for our mailing list.
IDC aims to award scholarships 1-2 months before courses begin. We understand that a lot of our registrants' decision to apply is predicated upon receiving a scholarship or not. We desire to finalize scholarships well in advance so that necessary financial planning can occur in the event that an applicant is not awarded a scholarship.
IDC does not set future application deadlines, because the scholarship application is course-specific and applicants cannot select a course to apply for if the courses have not been announced yet.
Whew! That was a lot of information. But now we would like to support you in how to apply successfully moving forward…
How can I plan ahead/ be notified when the Level 1 and Level 2 scholarship application(s) opens?
The best way to be notified when a scholarship application opens up, is to sign up for the mailing list by going to the very bottom of the IDC website (and/or the Scholarship Program page) and adding your email. When we announce Early Registration (which is solely reserved for BIPOC individuals) for upcoming courses, the newsletter will inform recipients that the scholarship application is open.
Applicants will be able to apply for at least 3-4 weeks. (Applications open at the beginning of Early Registration and close two weeks after General Registration.)
Scholarship recipients are notified up to 10 calendar days after the application deadline closes. (You can find more detailed information on how/ when recipients are notified on the Scholarship Page.)
*NOTE: If you visit the website and the scholarship deadline for Level 1 and Level 2 has passed for the courses currently listed on the website, the next best step is to sign up for the mailing list and make sure our emails do not go to your Spam folder.
