Consent-Forward Artist Program Updates

Published: January 28th, 2023

Hello IDC Community!

We are excited to share an incredible opportunity and curricular update beginning in April 2023.

Over the last year, our team has been conducting research, soliciting student feedback, and collaborating with the top professionals from a variety of disciplines to create an updated Consent-Forward Artist program!

We are launching our updated Level 1 and Level 2 courses, which will now culminate in the Consent-Forward Artist (CFA) Certificate

  • Foundations of Consent & Intimacy (Level 1 Online)

  • Applications of Consent & Intimacy (Level 2 Online)

    •  Level 2 will now conclude with an optional quiz in order to gain the Consent-Forward Artist Certificate of Completion

We’re packing more resources, tools, and information into these courses by using asynchronous materials that provide actionable tools for working consensually and supporting intimate scene work. Because of these additions, we’ve eliminated the final in-person requirement of the CFA, towards our goal of making this material as accessible as possible.

For students who have previously completed Level 1:

You will be able to seamlessly continue your journey with Applications of Consent & Intimacy (Level 2 Online), the successful completion of which will allow you to receive the Consent-Forward Artist Certificate.

For students who have already completed Level 2:

The updated content will be offered FREE OF CHARGE through the Consent Studio. You will be able to review this content and submit for the Consent Forward Artist Certificate. Keep an eye on your email for next steps!

Whether you are pursuing a career as an intimacy professional or you are looking to expand your professional training to include more consent-based practices, the Consent-Forward Artist Program will support your career growth and goals. Our updated curriculum provides actionable tools for working with intimate scenes and empowers each artist to apply these foundations within their own disciplines and spheres of influence to bring forward a culture of consent in which intimate stories can be told with safety and artistry.

The Consent-Forward Artist Certificate is a designation of study and achievement, similar to First Aid Certification. It demonstrates to colleagues, employers, and the community at large that the certificate holder is proficient  in utilizing consent-forward artistic practices to support safer working environments.

*Additional information about the CFA Program is also available throughout this list of FAQs.

  • Previous CFA Program:

IDC’s first CFA program required completion of Level 1 and Level 2 in addition an in-person workshop which consisted of (1) online session and three (3) in-person working days. Students were issued a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of a final assessment.

    Revised CFA Program:

IDC’s revised CFA program does NOT require an in-person component. The full program consists of Level 1 and Level 2 (which now include additional resources, activities, prompts, readings, and videos). Students are issued a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of Level 2 and a final assessment.

*NOTE: The final assessment is optional. Students who do not wish to receive a certificate of completion are not required to complete the final assessment.

  • Level 1: Foundations of Consent and Intimacy is the first step of the revised CFA program, and takes a broader, more holistic approach to how the principles of intimacy and consent can be applied to all roles within the industry. It includes an expansion of additional resources, and more practical, immediately implementable tools that students can use in their current role within the industry.

In addition to the expansion of content, learning objectives, and depth of material, Level 1 comes with a workbook with actionable guidance and steps that students can use to further their growth beyond the scope of the class.

  • Level 2: Applications of Consent and Intimacy is the second step of the revised CFA program, and builds on the expansion in Level 1. In addition to the expansion of content, learning objectives, and depth of material, Level 2 comes with a workbook with actionable guidance and steps that students can use to further their growth beyond the scope of the class.

  • Intimacy Professional Certification:

IDC’s Intimacy Professional Certification consists of completing: The Consent-Forward Artist Program (Levels 1 and Level 2) and our Advanced Training Program (Level 3 and 4). Students who successfully complete Levels 1-4 will be endorsed by IDC as certified professionals and receive a profile on the IDC website. For more about our full certification, download the Pathway to Certification Guide.

*NOTE: IDC is not a staffing company and will not provide job placement services for fully certified professionals.

    Consent-Forward Artist (CFA) Certificate:

The CFA Certificate consists of completing: the Consent-Forward Artist Program (Levels 1 and Level 2) and a final assessment. Students that successfully pass the final assessment with a score of 80% or more in an unlimited number of attempts, will receive a certificate of completion.

*NOTE: Students who obtain the CFA certificate will NOT be recognized by IDC as certified professionals and will not be officially endorsed on the IDC website.

  • No, the CFA final assessment is NOT required. Only students who wish to receive the Consent-Forward Artist Certificate are required to take the assessment.

  • The Consent-Forward Artist Certificate is a designation of study and achievement, similar in scope to a First Aid Certification. It demonstrates to colleagues, employers, and the community at large that the certificate holder is proficient in utilizing consent-forward artistic practices to support safer working environments.

  • Students will have an unlimited number of attempts to achieve a score of 80% or higher. The CFA final assessment must be completed no later than 30 days after the last LIVE synchronous session of the Level 1 or Level 2 course.

  • No! Our new courses include the same amount of in-class time as our previous Level 1 and Level 2 courses…and they are the same price! What is ADDED is additional material available for students to engage with outside of class time should they wish.

  • More in-person training is in the works! We know how valuable this style of learning is, and we are going to continue to offer it at IDC for all learners. For accessibility reasons, though, it is no longer a REQUIRED part of this program.

  • Not all learners process information at the same pace or in the same way. Additionally some learners will choose to heavily participate in community building opportunities, discussion boards, and exercises in between synchronous classes. These factors leave a wide range of possibilities for overall time commitment.

    Level 1:

In Level 1: Foundations of Consent & Intimacy, students will devote three (3) hours to synchronous class work each week for four (4) weeks. IDC also predicts an additional half hour to two (0.5-2) hours of engagement with course material between classes. This includes a small number of assignments that are required to be able to fully participate during in-class exercises.

    Level 2:

In Level 2: Applications of Consent & Intimacy students will devote two and a half (2.5) hours to synchronous class work each week for six (6) weeks, and IDC predicts an additional hour to three (1-3) hours of engagement with course material between classes. This includes a small number of assignments that are required to be able to fully participate in class exercises.

*As noted, there is now additional material available for students to engage with beyond the completion of the course, should they wish. This material is not required to complete the course or the assessment but it is intended to support students beyond the scope of the class and facilitate their future growth and learning. Participants will have 30 day access after the end of the course to take the final assessment and download the workbook.
