Nigel is an award-winning movement and fight director/coordinator, intimacy coordinator/director, SAG-AFTRA stunt performer and actor with over 15 years of international professional experience. He has expertise in kinesthetic and natural movement processes, choreography, interdisciplinary collaboration, performance and teaching and is a practitioner of Meyerhold’s Theatrical Biomechanics.

Nigel is an Instructor, Fight Director and past President of the Society of Australian Fight Directors Inc; a certified Fight Director and Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, and an Honorary Fight Director with Fight Directors Canada. Nigel is also a classically trained fencer with Martinez Academy of Arms and has trained and taught extensively in Historical European Martial Arts throughout the world. Nigel recognised that the performing arts industry is undergoing significant pressures, challenges and changes. A greater level of accountability and due process is expected, particularly in relation to issues of sexual harassment and the creation of intimate and sexually representative scenes.

In 2018 Nigel was accepted into IDI’s apprenticeship program. He appreciates that the industry needs a process that is respectful, informed and supportive and is driven to help ensure the industry has the most suitably trained and qualified people to help this change take place.

He is guided by the goals to: Keep advancing his technical, practical and pedagogical skills in intimacy coordination+ direction; Help reinforce the importance of intimacy coordination + direction within the industry by being an advocate for the promotion and development of safe protocols and practice; Contribute to the development of an ethic of performer and workplace health and safety that observes the values and protocols of intimacy coordination. Contribute to a global community of like-minded teachers and exponents who wish to see intimacy coordination+direction grow.

Film work includes: Occupation 2, Pirates of the Carribean V, Deadline Gallipoli, The Water Diviner, The Bourne Legacy, Vikingdom and Winter’s Tale. As part of the Weapons Specialists Ltd creative team: The Good Wife, Person of Interest, One Shot/Jack Reacher, Boardwalk Empire, Salt, I Am Legend, Sopranos – 1997 Season, The Ministers, 30 Rock and Law and Order: Criminal Intent (Wolf Films). Live performance choreography credits includes: The Australian Ballet (2018), the New York City Ballet (2007 – 2018), The Metropolitan Opera (2009 – 2015), Sydney Theatre Company, the Bell Shakespeare Company, Belvoir Street, Washington Opera Company, Opera Australia, Circus Oz, Melbourne Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite Theatre, Playbox Theatre, and Kooemba Jdarra.
