Workshop Description

“Applications of Intimacy & Consent” (Level 2) is a six (6) week online course takes place once a week for two and a half hours and comes with a full suite of worksheets, handouts, videos, exercises, and prompts. During class students will participate in exercises, use breakout rooms, and listen to lectures. In between classes students have access to a class community forum for ongoing discussion and activities.

After this six (6) week course, students will be able to:

  • Define their personal Integrity-Based Practices: a collection of self-generated commitments to create short-term and long-term change within their spheres of influence

  • Discuss a scene of intimacy based on a foundation of narrative context, rather than their own personal experiences

  • Utilize bystander intervention techniques to advocate for themselves and others when a boundary is crossed

  • Analyze intimacy choreography and determine how choreographic choices impact storytelling on both stage and screen

  • Implement containers for exploring impulse-based work within actor boundaries

  • Create nuanced strategies for mitigating the negative effects of the power dynamics present in the entertainment industry

  • Identify the needs of an intimate scene based on the script and context of the production

  • Employ a trauma-informed approach to create closure practices that support sustainability for actors and other creative team members

This course meets live on a video call for two and a half (2.5) hours once a week over six weeks. In addition to the live sessions, participants will also have access to an online classroom for further discussions, readings, resources, and homework assignments in between live sessions. This course is designed to be taken synchronously, meaning you will be working at the same pace as the rest of the class. Live video sessions can be recorded and watched later for special circumstances, but participants should plan to attend all video lectures and discussion sessions live. This course requires your presence and participation.

This course is part of the Consent-Forward Artist Program and a prerequisite to apply to the Certified Intimacy Professional Program

Attendance Policy and Recording Information

This course is designed to be taken synchronously, meaning you will be working at the same pace as the rest of the class. Live video sessions can be recorded and watched later for special circumstances, but participants should plan to attend all video lectures and discussion sessions live.

During the live Zoom classes students are gaining important skills such as being present with difficult material, interpersonal communication skills, the articulation of new thoughts and experiences to others, community building, and emotional and intellectual regulation. These are skills that are fundamental to being a successful intimacy professional, and are therefore heavily evaluated during your application to Level 3. Missing too many live sessions may impact your learning, and therefore may affect your application to Level 3. When applying to Level 3, it will be the students’ responsibility to demonstrate a sufficient understanding of the role of an intimacy professional and the work itself.

*IDC plans to offer this course regularly. If this does not fit into your schedule at this time, there will be more. We plan to offer multiple days and times to increase accessibility.

Makeup Session Policy

*NOTE: This is for course sessions that are canceled by IDC.
Should a class within an active course be canceled due to an instructor’s inability to teach that particular class, the class session will be canceled for all registered participants and rescheduled for a “makeup session.” Registered participants that are not able to attend the makeup session will be provided a recording of the makeup session and expected to notify their instructors once they have watched the recording. Any homework assigned to participants during this makeup session will be required for ALL participants, whether they attend the makeup session synchronously or asynchronously. A participant’s inability to attend the makeup session will in NO WAY affect their ability to complete the course or be eligible for future levels within the certification pathway.

As a result of IDC’s offering of makeup sessions, class cancellations due to instructor emergencies will not result in/constitute a refund to any participants. Any refund requested as a result of a class that has been rescheduled for a makeup session will be denied.
