Jill Matarelli Carlson (She/Her/Hers) is a Professor at East Carolina University where she teaches Movement for Actors, Stage Combat, Physical Characterization, and Acting in the School of Theatre and Dance. She is an intimacy director, fight director, movement specialist, actor, and educator who is dedicated to advocating for performer safety. Jill is a Certified Teacher with The Society of American Fight Directors and a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher. She has worked as an Entertainment Cast Member for Walt Disney World and co- founded The Odyssey Express Touring Theatre Company; whose goal was to bring quality theatre experiences to children in the Chicago-land area. She has worked professionally all over the United States as an actor, fight director, and intimacy choreographer. Most recently, she staged the violence, movement, and intimacy for the Cape Fear Regional Theatre productions of Wait Until Dark, Disgraced, Peter and The Starcatcher, Music City, and Memphis. Jill received an MFA in Acting with a Movement Concentration from Western Illinois University.
