Jenny Male is an Intimacy Director, Movement & Fight Choreographer, Vocal Coach, and Director in the DC/Baltimore area. She is also Resident Intimacy and Fight Director for theEquity theatre Rep Stage in Columbia, Maryland.
Jenny came to Intimacy Direction by way of fight and dance choreography. Her focus is on creating standards for Intimacy work in educational and professional theatre in the DC/Baltimore area. Her passion is advocating for actors and bringing the joy and specificity of Intimacy work to the creative process.
Her Intimacy and Fight Direction work has appeared at Rep Stage, Everyman Theatre, Adventure Theatre, Single Carrot Theatre, Maryland Opera Studio, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Ozark Actors Theatre, Tecumseh!, Maryland Lyric Opera, Arts Collective, and Red Branch Theatre Company.
Directing and choreography credits include As You Like It and My Fair Lady (Ozark Actors Theatre), The Secret Garden, [title of show], Spring Awakening, Evil Dead, and Into the Woods (Red Branch Theatre Company), A Chorus Line, Noises Off, and Urinetown (Arts Collective), Tecumseh!, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Macbeth (Tecumseh Outdoor Drama), The Importance of Being Earnest (Stevenson University), Merrily We Roll Along (Towson University), and She Kills Monsters, Twelfth Night, and Argonautika (Howard Community College).
Jenny is Associate Professor of Theatre at Howard Community College. She is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors and is also a member of VASTA, ATME, and SDC. Jenny earned her MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002.
